Cindy Hall homecoming to benefit Humane Society
Wednesday, January 18, 2006 9:25 PM EST Print this story | Email this story
Survivor Cindy Hall is returning to her hometown to raise money for a cause close to her heart -- animals

The Humane Society of Buffalo Trace is working with Hall, who appeared on the CBS show "Survivor: Guatemala," and The Ledger Independent to sponsor a benefit dinner, Feb. 2 at Caproni's on the River, beginning at 6 p.m. Dinner is $40 a person with proceeds going to the humane society. Tickets can be purchased at Caproni's, Colonial Heights Veterinary Clinic and Town and Country Veterinary Clinic. Humane society President Rebecca Cartmell said tickets can be purchased from the society's board members. She may be contacted at 606-584-3431.

Following the dinner, Hall will head down to O'Rourke's to watch the season premier of "Survivor: Panama Exile Island." O'Rourke's and The Ledger Independent held a party every Thursday night at the pub during Hall's appearance on the show.

Hall, who worked as a zoo keeper before she was accepted to appear on "Survivor," said she wanted to sponsor any program that helped animals.

"Anybody who knows me, knows how much I love animals and the environment," Hall said. "Anything I can do to help animals, I will."

Hall will speak about her experiences on "Survivor: Guatemala" and about her favorite subject, animals. She will be joined by her twin sister, Mindy Hall, who made an appearance on "Survivor: Guatemala" when contestants were allowed to buy time with family members.

Hall won't be the only "Survivor" veteran on hand for the evening. Crittenden resident Rodger Bingham, who appeared in "Survivor: The Australian Outback" almost five years ago will also attend the dinner.

Known as "Kentucky Joe," on the program, Bingham now serves as the commonwealth's agricultural marketing spokesman.

Cartmell said the dinner is a chance to get the humane society off the ground. The organization was formed about six months ago and elected a board in November.

"The society will be governed by a board of seven people," Cartmell said.

Although newly formed, the society has set goals which will help it provide services to the community while protecting animals. The goals are:

-- Find permanent, safe homes for animals through volunteer resources and donations.

-- Provide public education and sponsor community programs to promote awareness.

-- Develop and maintain a spay and neuter program.

-- Establish and operate a state-of-the-art open admission animal shelter.

The evening's events may also include a raffle to benefit the animal rescue organization and some surprises.

Accommodations for Hall during her stay in Maysville will be provided by Hampton Inn of Maysville.
