Maysville hip-hop artist calls new CD ‘an audio book’

If Michael Fletcher could use one word to describe his music he said it would be "non-ficticious."
Fletcher, also known as Lil Bone Face in the music world, recently collaborated with BahaMusic and ShyDog Productions, an independent music label, to release his latest album, "Mr. Bad Side: The Book of Michael."
Fletcher, 20, from Maysville, started writing when he was nine years old. He quit writing for several years, but started writing again when he was about 15 years old. During that time, he began recording digitally on computers
Fletcher writes all his own hip-hop lyrics, and he has performed at several locations locally including venues in Maysville, Morehead, Cincinnati and Fort Wayne, Ind.
Fletcher said the inspiration for his music comes from his everyday life.
"This CD ... is an audio book, mainly talking about my life and what I've seen; what I think and my views of everything," Fletcher said.

Fletcher will perform during the American Basketball Association All-Star Game next month.
The event will be held in Sunrise, Fla., located outside of Miami.
Rob Lichtenberger, vice president for ShyDog Productions, said Fletcher will perform one or two songs during the All-Star Three-point Slam Contest on Feb. 11 or during the All-Star Game on Feb. 12.
Lichtenberger's daughter, Kristin, from Maysville, introduced him to Fletcher's music, and Lichtenberger said he was drawn to Fletcher's unique sound.
"When you look at an artist, you've got to see what sells; his ability to (write) lyrics, the words that he uses, his style," Lichtenberger said. "His writing abilities are unreal, and at his age he is learning a lot."
Lichtenberger said Fletcher's lyrics are what sets him apart from other mainstream rap artists, who write mostly about material possessions.
"It is strictly about life," Lichtenberger said about Fletcher's album.
Fletcher has his own production company, Limestone Entertainment, and he collaborated with ShyDog Productions on "The Book of Michael" album.
Lichtenberger said ShyDog Productions is a new music label.
"I want ShyDog to be one of the top labels in the United States," Lichtenberger said. "That is my goal."
Lichtenberger is planning a tour with ABA and he wants to book Fletcher in shows in the Bahamas with the Baha Men, who released the hit single "Who Let the Dogs Out."
Lichtenberger also wants Fletcher to tour in Europe.
"Europe is, right now, where you make the money," Lichtenberger said.
Fletcher said his family is excited for him and he wrote a song about his parents, Charles and Phyllis, titled "Everything You've Given Me." The song also features his sister.
Although he dedicated a song to his parents, Fletcher said his mother doesn't like some of the lyrics in his songs.
"My mom doesn't like some of the songs because there are a few cuss words in there," Fletcher said. "That's all she hears, the cuss words, so she doesn't really pay attention to the basis of what I'm trying to say."
Fletcher admits his parents have been the biggest influence in his life and musical career.
"They taught me that no matter how hard times get, and no matter what people say, if you love to do something, just keep doing it. If you have your heart set on it," Fletcher said. "No matter how many times people put you down and try to desecrate you, just keep doing what you want to do. No matter what you do, you can make a difference, if you have your heart set on it."
