Art Smart lecture series to begin Feb. 12

The Ohio River Valley Artists Guild will be holding its annual Art Smart: Sunday Art Conversations Lecture Series beginning this Sunday, Feb.12, at 2 p.m. The first scheduled speaker to kick off our Art Smart Lecture Series is artist, Marlene Steele.

Steele teaches at her studio building in downtown Cincinnati where she creates her work. She has been a popular instructor with the Art Academy of Cincinnati Community Education Program for many years. Classes include watercolor landscape in the parks, beginning figure drawing, the figure in watercolor,   the calligraphy foundation series and colored pencil.

Steele's work is built on the fundamental visual skill of drawing. In the various media, this ability is combined with rational analysis and inspiration and that enables her to process her colorful, original paintings. Her goal as a teacher is to develop not a way of painting, but a way to think, interpret and create that each student can implement toward their own personal journey. Each of her paintings hopefully conveys this unique experience leading the viewer into a new way of seeing and augmenting the student's personal process.

The Ohio River Valley Artists Guild is located at 504 Duke of York Street, Washington. All Art Smarts begin at 2 p.m. Admission is free. The Ohio River Valley Artists Guild is funded in part by the Hayswood Foundation and the Kentucky Arts Council.
