New organization forming for Christian women
Friday, October 6, 2006 10:29 PM EDT Print this story | Email this story
A new organization seeks to unite Christian women as they aim to serve God through various means.

United Women in Christ is an organization that spans churches and denominations, and county lines, to include all women, according to Elizabeth Smith, a member of Strawberry United Methodist Church in Flemingsburg.

"We're all in it for the same reason, giving praises to God," said Rita Mobley of Second Baptist Church in May's Lick. "(We) enjoy being around people and helping people."

A group of about 10 women involved in the organization gathered at Bethel Baptist Church in Maysville Wednesday evening, and each agreed that churches used to have more support from each other, as well as more interaction between churches.

"We used to have great times with one another," said Dolores Myrick, a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

The organization is not only about interaction between churches, but also about reaching out to the community through various events the organization plans to host each year. Their first event was a prayer luncheon earlier this year where donations were accepted for the Women's Crisis Center. The theme of the event was "colors of the spirit," and each church was represented by a different color, and a presentation was made on what the color often symbolized.

The next event is titled "Heaven and Hell," and will be held Oct. 21 at Bethel Baptist Church. The event is aimed at children to explain how their actions can affect them, and explain how to get to heaven versus hell. "Heaven and Hell" will take place from 5-8 p.m.

The organization hopes to organize at least three events annually.

For more information on the organization, or to join call 606-756-3062 or email lizl@maysvilleky.net. Other contact numbers for the organization include 606-267-3601 and 606-564-5158.
