CKBC blood drive to be held at Blue Licks

Battlefields are the places where blood is shed for freedom, honor and courage. But, with the Battle of Blue Licks more than 200 years in the past, it's been a long time since blood poured forth in the name of freedom. Now is the time to give blood for life, hope and compassion.

Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park is hosting a blood drive Oct. 28. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Central Kentucky Bloodmobile will be parked in front of the Pioneer Museum during that time for those who donate blood.

According to Holly Ray of CKBC, it takes generous, caring people to keep a community's blood supply at a safe level year round. Donating blood doesn't take very much time and can be done every 56 days. The blood center encourages anyone who has been a blood donor in the past, to give again as soon as possible.

"If you've never been a blood donor, give it a try," Ray said. "It's no big deal and you can help up to three Kentuckians in need of blood every time you donate. You'll feel great for having done this important community service."

The park has hosted several events this year including an art show at the Pioneer Museum and a two-day event to celebrate the new gift shop, located inside the lodge. Park Manager Stephanie Gaither said this event is another to welcome the community to the park.

"This blood drive will take place as part of our Halloween Campout Celebration at Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park," Gaither said.

The Halloween celebration includes a haunted trail, live music, jack-o-lantern contest, costume contests and a site decorating contest. The event is to promote a safe Halloween with trick or treating beginning at 6 p.m. in the campground.

All blood donors will receive a free gift from CKBC and a free gift from Blue Licks. In addition, all donors names will be entered for door prize drawings that will include a free Blue Licks T-shirt and a free overnight stay in the lodge, according to Gaither.
