Old Washington, downtown Maysville hosting 'late night' events
Wednesday, December 6, 2006 9:58 PM EST Print this story | Email this story
Enticing shoppers to the respective areas, merchants in Old Washington and downtown Maysville plan to have special "late night" shopping events to provide those looking for unique Christmas gift ideas an additional opportunity to find what they need to complete their list.

Tonight in Old Washington shops will remain open until 8 p.m. for the ninth annual "Late Nite Shopping" event, the last of eight special events held in Old Washington this year.

According to information provided, some businesses will provide refreshments for evening shoppers, offer free gift-wrapping, or give a gift with purchase. There will also be drawings for door prizes during the evening.

As an additional incentive for the evening, it will also be one of the last opportunities for shoppers to purchase a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry handmade in Washington as the area's resident silversmith, Rob Weingartner, former owner of The Purple Turtle, will be leaving after the end of the year, according to information provided by Old Washington shop owner Phyllis Helphenstine.

Shops also boast such items as antiques, Christmas ornaments, crafts, and many other items.

In Maysville on Dec. 18, some businesses in the downtown area will remain open for late night shopping until 8 p.m., according to Tourism Director Duff Giffen.

In addition to the shopping, children can visit Santa Claus at the little village set up at Limestone Landing. Giffen said from 6 to 8 p.m. Santa will be at the location and hot chocolate and cookies will be served.

"It's just an opportunity for the kids and their parents to come downtown," she said.
