Chamber of Commerce awards ceremony Jan. 27

Final votes have been cast for “Takin’ Care of Business” n- the Maysville-Mason County Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards ceremony honoring and recognizing businesses and their employees for exceptional customer service and dedication.

Find out who the winners are during the “Takin’ Care of Business” celebration, Jan. 27, 2007, at the Washington Opera House located at 116 West Second Street. This year’s awards celebration begins with a social/cocktail event from 7:30-8 p.m. Award presentations begin at 8. Hors d’oeuvres and dancing will follow presentations.

“Takin’ Care of Business”is divided into business and individual awards categories. Three major business category winners, divided according to duration of operation, number of employees and non-profit/service status, will be announced. Additionally, individual employees from 16 categories will be recognized for superior customer service throughout the evening.

John Carpenter, Chamber executive director, explained the process and the motivation driving “Takin’ Care of Business.”

“The Chamber felt there was an obvious need to recognize, not only the great businesses that make this area exceptional, but those employees that exemplify the best in customer service,” Carpenter said. “These businesses and individuals work hard to bring the best possible product to their clients n which is a tremendous, sometimes thankless job. We wanted to give these businesses and, in particular, their employees the chance to be recognized.”

“What makes this unique is the fact that the general public is not weighing in with its opinion. It’s not a popularity contest. This committee and the Chamber staff didn’t make the nominations, the membership did. It’s an incredible feeling to know that these businesses are being judged and nominated by their peers. Individual winners are being honored by other business owners. If you look at the list of nominees, you’ve got a great cross-section of what makes the region’s businesses great.”

Dave Weller, regional director of Regulatory & External Affairs for event sponsor Cellular One, is excited about the format primarily for the celebration of individual personnel awards.

“We’re proud to support an event that recognizes those individuals that excel at providing quality service from the frontline,” said Weller. “ It’s a great way to celebrate what the Chamber and its members provide to the community.”

This year’s event will be modeled after Hollywood awards ceremonies -- complete with red carpet, music, video, food, humor and excitement. Returning to Masters of Ceremony duties are Sean George, owner/operator of Courika Solutions, and former Maysville Police Chief Van Ingram.

Admission price for the event is $20 per person, which includes awards ceremony, hors d’oeuvres and dancing. RSVP to attend this prestigious event by calling the Chamber at 606-564-5534 or e-mailing chamber@maysvilleky.net. Deadline to pick up tickets at the Chamber office, located at 15 West Second Street, is Jan. 24, 2007.
