Maysville man arrested in drug round-up

Nearby a group of children bounced on a trampoline, oblivious to what was going on just down the block.
After four months of undercover work, the Buffalo Trace Gateway Area Narcotics Task Force has begun the round-up of a group of suspected drug traffickers in the Maysville area.
Even as police processed the scene Friday, the alleged drug traffickers cellular phone began to ring. An officer answered and told the caller that Eric was cleaning his car. The caller apparently wanted to talk with the phone's owner but wasn't expecting the police to pick up when he called.
In actuality, Eric Clay of Maysville was handcuffed in the back of a Maysville police cruiser. An unidentified juvenile was seated in another squad car.
The caller didn't agree to meet with the anonymous officer on the other end of the line this time.
"But sometimes they do," said MPD Sgt. Leo McKay. "I have seen him get them to hook up and come right to us."
Clay was wanted on a warrant in connection with a previous drug purchase, said the task force member. When he was stopped, Clay was found to be in possession of a large quantity of cash in various denominations, a small quantity of what initially tested positive for marijuana and about an one ounce in rocks of what tested positive for cocaine, police said. A laptop computer, cellular phone and a DC/DVD player were also confiscated, along with a ring that was found on the juvenile and the grey older model Cadillac Clay was driving.
While Clay will be charged with trafficking on the warrant charge, additional charges most likely will be added, based on the materials found in the Friday bust, said the task force member.
The juvenile may not be charged, but police planned to take him to the department to have a parent retrieve him, said McKay.
Working in conjunction with tips and local law agencies, the task force expects more arrests in the near future.
"There is four months of work in this operation. We expect to make more arrests," the task force member said.
