MCTC ‘Concert on The Lawn’ August 26

The Maysville n Mason County Arts Council will sponsor the annual “Concert on The Lawn” at Maysville Community & Technical College on Sunday, August 26th at 7:00 p.m.

Jay Flippin Orchestra will perform music from Broadway to Motown during the evening performance. The 18 piece ensemble will include 1 male and 1 female lead vocalist from the Lexington Philharmonic’s.

Jay Flippin recently retired from Morehead State University, where he taught for 33 years, and is now Associate Professor Emeritus. His special focus of interest has been piano, arranging, and jazz studies. He is also Minister of Music at First Baptist Church in Morehead, pianist for the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra, and leader of the Jay Flippin Trio. Mr. Flippin holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Mars Hill College in North Carolina, a Master of Music from Morehead State University, and an ABD in Theory from the University of Kentucky. He has also completed post graduate studies at Temple University.

In addition to a full schedule as teacher and accompanist, Mr. Flippin has written over a thousand compositions and arrangements for choirs, orchestras, jazz ensembles, bands, and soloists. He has composed over 300 radio and television jingles, and has produced and / or performed on more than 200 albums, ranging from country to jazz to pop.


For his varied accomplishments, Mr. Flippin has received the Morehead State University Distinguished Faculty Creative Productions Award and the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Man of the Year Award. In 2006 he was honored as Kentucky Artist of the Year by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

This concert is free and open to the public. Chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets are encouraged. Donations will be accepted.
