RIPLEY, Ohio -- Five state and local law enforcement agencies converged Friday afternoon on the Ohio River at the mouth of Eagle Creek Marina in Ripley, in reference to a report that someone had jumped from a boat into the water and disappeared.

Representatives from the Ripley Police Department, Brown County Sheriff's Office, Ripley Fire Department, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Kentucky Division of Wildlife all worked hand in hand to find the reported victim.

An emergency call went out at approximately 4:15 to the Ripley Police Department from George Teegarden of Ripley who said he witnessed the incident.

Teegarden said that he saw an occupant of the vessel "USS Somewhereelse," jump into the Ohio River from the second floor of the houseboat.

"I saw him (victim) surface once and yell for help then go back under," Teegarden said.

According to Teegarden, the victim surfaced twice only to slip back under the water.

Attempts to find the victim were unsuccessful by Teegarden, who later called 911.

"I looked for him from my boat and got on the phone with 911, while my wife (Connie) searched from the water but we couldn't find anything," Teegarden explained.

The vessel in question later docked at Eagle Creek, where officers from the Brown County Sheriff's Office interviewed other occupants.

As of press time, resources from all five agencies were still on scene with official watercraft in the river dragging the water west of Eagle Creek in efforts to recover the victim.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

" In reference to my earlier comment, I forgot to mention a couple of people. We would also like to thank ALL the agencies, especially the Ohio Watercraft division, for all of their efforts. Also all the people that I will not name for obvious reasons. You know who you are. You all acted with great professionalism and we know you did all that you could!! Like I said we can't put into words how greatful we are! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! "

" In response to Evely's comment I would like to second that. They went above and beyond and Mrs. Teegarden actually risked her own life to do what she could. I can't put into words how greatful the Hamblin family is to the both of them. THANK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART!!! Good to know that there are still some people in this world that care! "
