JACKSON - The Fugate brothers starred in under a half of play to send Fleming County back home in Friday's season-ending loss to Breathitt County, 52-0.
Class 3A's number two-ranked team scored 31 points in the first quarter and 21 in the second behind sophomore running back Channing Fugate and his older brother, senior quarterback Colby.
Channing Fugate ran for 166 yards and two scores, and added two more touchdowns on his only two receptions of the night, totaling 78 yards. All four Channing Fugate scores came in the first quarter.
Meanwhile, signalcaller Colby Fugate was 9-for-11 for an even 200 yards and four touchdowns. The other two went to Ryan Allen and Wesley Epperson.
Channing Fugate started off the scoring with a 74-yard run. Allen scored on a 20-yard catch three minutes later, preceding three more Channing Fugate scores (catches of 22 yards and 56 yards from his brother, and an 8-yard run).
Rusty Herald and Jade Haddix added second quarter touchdown runs for the Bobcats, sandwiched around Colby Fugate's fourth scoring pass, a three-yarder to Epperson.
The game marked the end of the careers for Fleming County's nine seniors: Adam Bailey, Jacob Bell, Adam Bentley, Brandon Eddington, Travis Huddleston, Jamie Little, Anthony Merrill, Zach Schwartz and Jacob Wallingford. Bell, arguably the team's best all-purpose player, did not play due to a knee injury.
The Panthers finish at 4-7. The 11-0 Bobcats move on to host Estill County next Friday.
