Reward offered in Bracken library burglary case
Friday, December 7, 2007 10:48 PM EST Print this story | Email this story
BROOKSVILLE -- The Kentucky State Police and the Bracken County Library are seeking the public's help in the apprehension of two people who stole electronic and video equipment from the library in November.

"There is surveillance video of the incident but both individuals were completely covered except for their eyes," said Kentucky State Police Trooper Mark Grisik.

The pair of intruders allegedly entered the building on Miami Street, in Brooksville about 2:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 20, and spent more than one hour inside the building, exiting at 3:45 a.m., according to the surveillance information, said Grisik.

An analysis of the surveillance video is being conducted to help create a better description of the burglars.

"We are trying to determine their heights by comparisons to the surroundings," said Grisik. "We do know it was two white males."

Taken during the burglary were several Dell computers, complete with monitors and keyboards, computer software, a Kawasaki cordless drill, JVC camcorder and Canon Powershot digital camera, all in their cases, and 150 DVDs in unmarked black cases. The DVDs were the ones the library allowed patrons to check out.

Because few leads have surfaced in the case, officials are offering a reward.

"The library is offering a $500 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the individuals who committed this crime," said Grisik.

No similar incidents have been reported and Grisik said he believes the individuals may have local ties.

Anyone with information on the incident should call Grisik at 859-428-1212 or Bracken County Library at 606-735-3620.

" taxpayer, that library is actually very beautiful. im sorry you have no need for fancy book learning, but others do. its a real shame anyone would steal from a library. no class at all. "

" Today is Dec. 13th. and the library was broke into on Nov. 20 , Why did it take so long to get in the papers. By now everything the robbers took is already sold. Of course it might have been in the paper and I just looked over it too. Like some of the things that happen in the County. "

" I dont live in brooksville, but I will assume the ambulance tax is less cause they receive a huge check most every time they make a run. The library tax would probably also be less if you had to pay several hundred dollars for every book you checked out. I do live in maysville and that is what I base my assumptions on. For example, I had to ride in an ambulance from downtown maysville to the hospital and later got a bill for $450, but I never have to pay for books I check out at the maysville library. "

" To Disgusted: I see enough of the library every year when I review the tax statements! According to my statement, the library tax is higher than the ambulance tax and that is just wrong. The ambulance service benefits far more people for far less although it could certainly stand improvement. The library was forced on the taxpayers who should have had a say in the matter. Doesn't that bother you at all? "

" I believe the library does a nice job with the kids. But it cost me more int axes to fund the library than it does the ambulance service. Everyone is tightening their belts. The library should as well. I personally can not go to the library because I work in the city and do not make it home in time to go to the library. "

" Apparently taxpayer you aren't very informed because the expense has not been increased this year. Have you even set foot in the library and seen all that it has to offer? "

" where is the alarm,if they were in the building for an hour. also no police patrol in B'ville?? Who said that it was kids?? "

taxpayer wrote on Dec 10, 2007 9:01 AM:

" In a way I find this kind of funny because the library is finally getting a taste of what they have been doing to us taxpayers for years! For those of who may not remember, the library was never approved by the voters who were basically told to shut their mouths and open their wallets and the expense keeps increasing year after year! At least the crooks who broke into the library are honest about who they are. "

" Ripping off the library is about as low as stealing from the Boy Scouts. The library is a great place for youth of all ages. There are many activities for them all year long. Now the many have to do without because of the greed of a few. I hope someone who appreciates the library will come forward and the kids are caught. Parents do you know where your kids are at 2:00 in the morning??? WHEN they are caught you will have to pay too. It would be better to come forward before they are turned in. $500.00 id s lot of money at Christmas. "
