RIPLEY, Ohio -- Forrest L. "Pudge" Paul, age 78 of Aberdeen, Ohio, went home to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Brown County General Hospital in Georgetown, Ohio. He was a United States Navy World War II Veteran, a United States Army Korean War Veteran, where he was a survivor of the Chosin Reservoir. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, KSM with six bronze camp stars, the United Nations SVO Medal, AOM (Japan), Presidential Unit Citation and CIB Medal. He loved his country and served it proudly. Mr. Paul was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #367 of Ripley, the Maysville VFW, DAV (former commander), the 37th Infantry Regiment and a lifetime member of The Chosin Few. He was also a Kentucky Colonel, a lifelong and devoted member of The Ripley Church of Christ and served as The Brown County Veterans Services Commissioner for 17 years.

Mr. Paul was born on May 24, 1929 in Decatur, Ohio, the son of the late Olin and Gladys Milligan Paul. He was also preceded in death by three brothers; Edward, Blanchard (Pete) and Ronald Paul; and one brother-in-law, Carl (Skunk) Johnson.

Pudge is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Deloris Lightner Paul; one son, James Paul of California; five step- children, Patricia (Jeff) Clark of Lancaster, John (Kristi) Lightner of Aberdeen, Tammi Grierson of Ripley, Tina (Gary) Darlington of May's Lick, Penny (Michael) McCleary of Hawaii; one grandson, James Paul, Jr. of Amelia, Ohio; five step-grandchildren, Karli Lightner of Aberdeen, Jacob Grierson of Ripley,  Christopher Dyer of Ripley, Alyssa Dyer of Ripley and Felicia Pisarz of Memphis, Tenn.; one great- grandchild, Cameron Paul and a step great- grandson; one brother, Lt. Col., James H. Paul of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters Doris Johnson of Georgetown and Erma (Bud) Spiller of Ripley; two brothers-in-law, Rudy (Nettie) Lightner of Ripley and Lewis (Gloria) Lightner of Williamsburg, Ohio; three sisters-in-law, Eva (Larry) Lanter of Mount Orab, Ohio, Wanda (Jim) Perraut of Aberdeen, and Bea Paul of Cincinnati; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Cahall Funeral Home in Ripley. Rev. John Neu will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 - 9 p.m., Monday evening, May 12 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery in Ripley with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #367 of Ripley. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association or The American Cancer Society.
