MAYSVILLE -- Mrs. Annabelle Carpenter Whaley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died May 4, 2008, in Houston, Texas.

Annabelle was born in Robertson County, on Oct. 7, 1924, to James Nelson Carpenter and Rose Catherine Dickson Carpenter. She was the youngest of 13 children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers; and two sisters. Her stepmother, Flora Carpenter, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Lloyd Whaley; her son, Larry Whaley and his wife, Charlotte; two granddaughters, Katherine Whaley and Jenna Beth Whaley; and three sisters, Maggie Bailey, Pearl Day and Clarine Stewart are left to treasure her memory as well.

Annabelle worked most of her adult life at Modern Laundry and Dry Cleaning Company in downtown Maysville. Her life centered around her family, friends and her work. She loved the simple things of life and nothing pleased her more than working in her yard, preparing a delicious meal, canning pear preserves or spending time with her loved ones.

Annabelle was a lifelong member of Seddon United Methodist Church and treasured her faith and her Seddon friends. In 2006, Annabelle moved with Lloyd to Houston, Texas, to be closer to her son and his family and to treat her cancer at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She was diagnosed with other illnesses in the last few months. Annabelle never failed to amaze people with her calm and courageous manner as she valiantly battled each illness. She lived the last year and a half of her life at Clarewood House Assisted Living in Houston. Her family is grateful to the loving staff there who assisted her. Her patient, kind, gentle and loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

Services will be held at Seddon United Methodist Church on Friday, May 9, 2008, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Charles Shoemaker and Rev. Mason Harrod will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Maysville Cemetery.

Visitation will be today, May 8, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. at Knox and Brothers Funeral Home.
