Pairings set for area baseball, softball tournaments

District baseball and softball tournaments begin on Monday, including the 39th District baseball tournament, which will open with a doubleheader.
Mason County will play Bracken County in the opening round of the 39th District baseball tournament at 5:30 p.m., and St. Patrick will face Augusta in the nightcap of the doubleheader, which will be played at Bracken County.
Mason County (9-18) and Bracken County (5-14) have met twice this season with the Royals winning both times. They defeated the Polar Bears, 15-1, on April 21 at Bracken County's field, then a week later the Royals beat the Bears, 15-5 at Mason County.
St. Patrick (1-15) won its only game of the season against Augusta (0-9) by a 13-3 score.
The winners of the first-round games will be assured a berths in the 10th Region tournament.
The 39th District softball tournament also opens Monday with No. 2-seeded Mason County (8-12) going against No. 3 St. Patrick (7-10) at 5:30 p.m. at the Maysville-Mason County Recreational Park. The winner will play No. 1 seed Bracken County (23-8) at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the championship game.
