" I think you all are wrong who oppose the breed I own four pits and have four kids each kids picked their pup have raised it in accordance with 4h guidelines and have shown them in obediance classes. they have not bitten anyone my 5 year old male dog is a therepy dog they have been attacked at dog parks by other dogs and owners who were not right. I have no problem with my dogs they dont act aggressive even when taunted and i am not home. My mom who is 60 walked my pit down the street and he stayed at heel the whole time with a flat collar on and there were dogs barking all around him. this is a loyal breed and I would put my life on the line for my pack just as they would me. they protect what they think is thiers mine will get in front of my kids and sit if they see someone they don't know but once introduced they are wiggle butts.PUNISH THE DEED NOT THE BREED!!!!!! " Doesn't amendment 14 mean anything any more? What we don't go by the Constitution any more. Like in my government class the other day are teacher had stated that our country isn't going by the constitution really any more. Like with the war with the war with the Iraq, it did not go through the congress the president said lets go and thats what happened. If this breed is so bad then why did a couple of our presidents own them, and don't tell me they weren't aggressive then, any breed can attack. Like when I was walking up the street 4 Chihuahuas came running after me and bit me and grabbed my pants leg. i know there small dogs but they can be just aggressive so are we going to ban them to. This country is getting worse everyday because of the stupid of the people. Talk about disunion I thought we were supposed to form a more perfect union. "

" I think the ban on pit bulls is stupid. Pit bulls, like any other dog, can be trained to be mean, or they can be trained to be loving family pets. It is the owners fault if their dog attacks, bites, or runs/chases someone, the owner should be punished for that act, not the dog it's self. I have owned many pit bulls, and before I met my husband I was scared to death of them, but after you own one, you will understand that it's not the breed of dog, it's the breed of their owners. If you have a stupid owner, you will have a stupid dog. I agree with the discriminating comment about mostly "colored people" and "drug dealers" being the owners of pit bulls. I am a white, upstanding citizen who has never broken the law, yet I would own a pit bull over a Chihuahua any day. I was attacked by a chow when I was young, yet I have never heard of a ban on them. It's just because it's the name pit bull, that you are banning them. I agree with Mr. Beckett...lets come up with other solutions of how to get this problem under control, and still allow loyal pit bull lovers the freedom to own whatever type of dog they prefer. In many cases, the pit bulls that do attack, are usually the ones who are being abused, neglected, and all around being treated unfairly, why not do something to those owners? I watch these animal cop shows on Animal Planet, and they actually do something about animal cruelty, yet we do nothing. If there was a starving, half beaten pit bull laying on the side of the road, instead of trying to get it some help, the "officer's" and "dog warden" would rather shoot/destroy that dog then to peruse a cruelty investigation. I have a 4 year old niece, and I would rather her be around my pit bulls, then any other type of dog. ANY DOG CAN BITE, it just depends on how they are raised, treated, and trained. But mostly it depends on who their owners are. "

" Looking at David's comment makes me sick. I respect your freedom to walk about and not have to worry about being harrassed by any breed of dog or human for that matter. But your comment implies that drug dealers are the only people who own these breeds. I had one and I have never sold dope. I have friends that have owned them and never sold dope. Your thinking is in line with the thoughts of the city commision and that's why these dogs are being banned. They are not being banned because the commission believes this is a bad breed of dog in general, they are banning them because they associate this breed with people of color and the poor - who unfortunately - have historically been stereotyped as drug dealers, thugs and dope fiends and that is Damned Wrong!! What I don't understand about the story is the guy said he walked past the dog the first time and then on the way back he attacked him. But knowing how pit bulls act he had to do something to provoke the dog because if he was friendly to him when he went by that brings up the question what did the guy do to provoke the dog on the way back through. SO I SAY EVERYONE THAT WANTS TO HELP FIGHT AGAINST THIS ORIDANCE WE ALL NEED TO BE AT THE MEETING WHICH IS JULY 10 at 5:15 p.m SO PLEASE EVERYONE COME OUT AND SHOW SUPPORT "

Too much hype and not alot of sense is going into BSL and pit bulls (which is a generic term and is being applied to many non-"pit bull" type dogs) are taking the brunt of it. Maybe pit bulls being the #1 bred dog in the US is conributing to their overpopulation, which is making it seem like they're biting people constantly. Which is a lie. Stop blaming the wrong end of the leash and approach this intelligently!!! "

" this is sad when it comes to the point that a certain breed has to be band because pet owners can't or won't take responsabilty of there aminals. June 28,2006 I was living in Ripley, Ohio,I had a 15lb. dog in it's own yard that was attacked by a neighbors pit bull, not only was the neighbors dog loose it come into my HOUSE after my dog, the attack started out side, when I got my dog loose and in the house the pitbull come in after us. There was no way to stop this dog. When the Ripley Police got there the pitbull went after the officer, the dog had to be shot 4 time before it stopped. My little dog died in route to the vet. The owner of the pitbull was fined $16.oo for not having dog tags. I really don't feel that it is the Breed, I feel it is the way they are raised and cared for. I think GOD every day that it was my Dog and not my grandson the pitbull got. Good luck to all those who have irresponsable pet owners close by. "

" You can ban something like say, tigers because your average housecat can't breed with them and they are easily recognizable. But with a pit bull - any dog could be a pit mix and most people wouldn't know it at first glance. Are they going to ban only pure breds or dogs that just look like pit bulls? How do you know a dog is one? What about rott weilers or dobermans?
And I'm sorry, but I don't think meaness can be bred in. It is how the dog is treated. I think any animal can become aggressive if startled or reminded of past abuses. "

Instead of breed specific legislation they need to require all owners within city limits to carry insurance on their dogs. That would suit well with responsible owners and make the bad ones move out!

Kentucky Stats
Over the past 43 years (1965 - 2007) there have been 14 fatal dog attacks in Kentucky, or approximately one (1) fatality every 3 years.
At least ten (10) different breeds/types of dogs have been identified as participating in a fatal attack in Kentucky.

Furthermore, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services:
In 2005, twenty-nine (29) Kentucky children died as the result of maltreatment (abuse or neglect).
In a SINGLE YEAR, 2005, nearly THREE TIMES as many Kentucky children died from maltreatment (abuse or neglect) than the TOTAL from ALL dog attacks in Kentucky over the past 43 years.
I think perhaps you should start with banning some Parent/Caretakers! "
