Rich Little — master impressionist of political figures, movie actors and even cartoon characters — will be performing live in Maysville as the No. 2 Event of the 10th anniversary of the Rosemary Clooney Concert.
Rich Little "Live" will take place at the Washington Opera House, Friday, Sept. 26, at 8:30 p.m., according to Abby Dobson of Lundy's Special Events which produces the concert each year.
Dobson said as a personal friend of the Clooney family, Little was interested in contributing to the annual concert weekend when he learned proceeds from his performance will go to the Rosemary Clooney Endowment, which benefits the Downing Performing Arts Academy and The Maysville Players.
"This is a joint effort between the concert and the endowment," Dobson said of the performance.
In addition to his Friday night show, Little will also entertain concert goers Saturday night as the opening number for the Michael Bolton concert.
Dobson said Little's Friday night show is in addition to the traditional free street party and concert sponsored by the city of Maysville and organizers hope patrons will first attend the street concert, then go to the Washington Opera House to enjoy Little's show. This year's Friday night concert will feature Parrots of the Caribbean, who will perform a tribute to Jimmy Buffet.
Little, as well as his wife are expected to arrive in Maysville either late Thursday night or early Friday morning from Las Vegas.
According to his Web site www.richlittle.com, "Little has charmed, amused, annoyed, and lampooned politicians from here to his native Canada. He entertained at the Reagan inaugurals and spent much of 2003 touring the United States with his show The Presidents.
A master mimic of over 200 voices, Little continues to impress in Atlanta City, Las Vegas, Reno, Hawaii, Chicago, New York, and London.
A professed classic movie buff, he's particularly fond of doing Alan Ladd (his hero as a kid) and others who are no longer generally remembered, but Little has also latched on to Baby Boomer-friendly characters like Edith Bunker, Kermit the Frog, Robin Leach, and Dr. Ruth Westheimer, just to name a few.
Some of his favorite current stars are Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Jack Nicholson and Clint Eastwood.
"They're easy to do," he said. "They are larger than life."
Tickets for Rich Little "Live" on Friday, Sept. 26, are $20 per person and may be purchased only through the Washington Opera House box office at 606-564-3666; the show begins at 8:30 p.m.
The Rosemary Clooney Concert featuring Michael Bolton will take place Sept. 27, with gates opening at 6:30 p.m: entertainment begins at 7 p.m.
