Clooney Concert proceeds to go to Maysville Players, Downing Academay

The Maysville Players and the Downing Academy for the Arts will receive sizeable donations from organizers of the Rosemary Clooney Concert for each concert ticket sold through the Players from now until the event in late September.

The event is planned and staged by Lundy’s, a Lexington catering and event enterprise that is owned and operated by Charlotte and Jerry Lundergan, both natives of Maysville.

Meeting with Debbie Lewis and Players Executive Director Mike Thomas last week, Jerry Lundergan and his daughter, Abby Dobson, proposed the local groups take 10 percent of proceeds from the ticket sales for tickets ordered through the Players.

“We’re extremely excited about this opportunity,” said Lewis, “The announcement that Michael Bolton will be the featured performer has created lots of excitement. Folks who intend to see the show simply need to purchase the tickets through the Players organization, and we get 10 percent of the price of the ticket.

Tickets range from $100 to $250 each. When purchasing a table of $250 seats (10 seats for $2,500), the new system will allow the Players and the Downing Academy to receive $250 for each table sold.

Tickets are available by calling The Washington Opera House at 606-564-3666.

“We’ll notify Lundy’s, and they will forward tickets and event information to the attendee,” said Lewis.

Reservation forms allowing for this donation were distributed at the Maysville Uncorked Festival earlier this month and will be published in The Ledger Independent.

“We ask a lot of our patrons, and we have been extremely pleased with the way the community has supported the theatre over the years, and especially since the renovation of the historic Opera House in 2007,” said Lewis, “This time, we’re only asking that those who are purchasing a ticket to the Rosemary Concert, make their arrangement through us, and Lundy’s will provide the donation.

Lundergan said ticket sales for this year’s event have surpassed anything he has seen since the earliest days of the festival when Rosemary herself headlined.

“We have sold more than 50 tables, and we have plans to make this the best ever,” said Lundergan. This is the 10th year for the festival which is held at the intersection of Market and Third streets and includes a formal dinner and the show.

“We’re going to start a little later in the evening this year n 6:30 p.m.,” said Lundergan. “We pay an enormous amount of money for the stage and lighting, and we want to take full advantage of the ambiance the location provides."

Lundergan said he is also considering an expansion of the television monitoring screens that allow the public to see the show at no cost.

“We’ll be utilizing Middle Market as well as the area on Third Street behind the guest tables for the public to use,” said Lundergan.

Lundy’s has also announced plans for a visit from comedian and impressionist Rich Little who will perform in a special show on Friday evening at the Opera House and then return on Saturday to share emcee duties with Denny Keller and Caroline Keller Reece.

Proceeds from the Friday night show will also benefit the Rosemary Clooney Endowment which in turn provides funding for the Maysville Players and the Downing Performing Arts Academy.

Tickets for Rich Little Live on Friday Sept. 26, are $20 per person and may be purchased only through the Washington Opera House box office at 606-564-3666. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. following the traditional street party at the main stage on the corner of Market Street and Third Street. The street party is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m.

" As I heard it, the Russell committee decided that they didn't really want to participate/work for any of the proceeds so the Lundergans found other non-profit organizations to contribute to - The Maysville Players and The Downing Academy - and they are anything but the upper class of Maysville. They have all kinds of people involved in their organizations. "
