Bracken grand jury indicts three

BROOKSVILLE -- A Bracken County grand jury handed down indictments against three individuals Friday, including a six-count indictment of a man who allegedly went berserk during Bracken District Court July 29.

Karl L. Tackett, 33, was indicted on two counts of third-degree assault for injuries and attempted injuries to Sheriff Chick Rechtin and Jailer James Cox. Rechtin was allegedly kicked in the thigh and Cox elbowed by Tackett, as they attempted to place him in custody for contempt of court on July 29.

He was also indicted for resisting arrest, and three counts of third-degree terroristic threatening for threatening to kill Judge W. Todd Walton, Rechtin and Cox, during the incident.

Cox remains in custody at this time, officials said.

He was given 179 days in jail on July 29, by Walton, for contempt of court after warnings to behave in Walton's courtroom were allegedly not followed by Tackett.

He did not appear in court to answer the charges Friday.

Due to technical incompatibility of media formats, the video recording of Tackett's outburst could not be posted on The Ledger Independent Web site. The material is public record and was obtained by the newspaper from the circuit clerk's office.

In an unrelated case, Danny E. Roberts, 25, was cited in a multiple count indictment including third-degree burglary of Tucker's Body Shop on Aug. 1; third-degree burglary of Brooksville Baptist Church on Aug. 2-3, third-degree burglary of Licking Valley Head Start on Aug 2-3 and third-degree burglary of Darrell's Bar "on or about Aug. 5-6." He was also indicted for receiving stolen property including six spray guns, a DeWalt cordless impact wrench, air ratchet set, air grinders, and die grinder belonging to Jim Jarvis at Tuckers; a camera, radio-CD player from Bettie Fisse; 13 cases of beer, five pool cues in cases, cigarettes and folding knives belonging to Darrell Tuel and ball spikes, baseball glove, car stereo and amplifier belonging to Tim Setty, all valued at over $300. In the final count, Roberts was cited for being a persistent felony offender based on prior offenses dating back to 2002.

Roberts remains in Mason County Detention Center.

Also indicted was James M. Blevins, 29, for flagrant non support, for not paying child support.

Blevins appeared in Bracken Circuit Court on Friday and preparations were made for him to make arrangements to possibly catch up on the $2,585 he owes or face a trial in two months.
