Fleming Co. hospital visited by a 'great friend'

FLEMINGSBURG n Congressman Geoff Davis made a stop in Flemingsburg to tour the new Fleming County Hospital on Tuesday.

Joining Davis on the tour was Bill Tom Cooper, director of Davis’s Maysville office. Hospital CEO David Sirk conducted the tour along with Joyce Fidler, marketing director for the hospital, Ron Harrington hospital CFO, and Sandra Pelfrey, director of clinical services.

Davis said he was “blown away” by the new facility in both looks and functionality.

“This is a state of the art facility.” Davis said. “It’s very exciting for the community.”  Davis joked the hospital was “much nicer than his Washington D.C. office.”

Davis was glad to see the hospital get a new start. “I am sure there are a lot of good memories from the old hospital.” Davis said. “This is a great beginning in a wonderful new facility to replace the old and build new memories. I remember being here for the ground-breaking.  To see all the hard work come to fruition is excellent for Fleming County.”

According to Davis, the “entire Buffalo Trace Area” will benefit because of the new hospital. “With Meadowview in Maysville in the north and this facility to the south, it can anchor the Buffalo Trace area for healthcare for all residents.”

Davis, whom Sirk referred to as “a great friend of the hospital,” wants to see reform in Washington so all rural hospitals can benefit.

“If we can reform the bureaucracy in Washington, we will be able to increase the monies available to all local area hospitals.” Davis said.

Davis indicated his stay in the district will be brief as he prepares to head to St. Paul, Minn., next week.

“I will be attending the Republican National Convention next week.” Davis said.

When asked how he feels about the presidential election, Davis said it has been thrilling.

“This is going to be a great election regardless of political beliefs or partisanship.” Davis said. “It is an exciting time in our country and I am enjoying following all of it.”

Davis said he is following the Democratic National Convention as well. “I enjoyed what little I was able to see of the DNC last night (Monday) and hope to catch more of it tonight.” Davis said.

Davis declined to predict a winner between Barack Obama and John McCain.

“I truly think it is going to come down to whoever has a strategic plan for solving the energy crisis in this country.” Davis said. “Whoever has the best plan to solve that and create new jobs is who will win.”
