Sheriffs advise Vanceburg residents to be on the look out

According to lead investigator Deputy Dwayne Stone of the Lewis County Sheriff's Office, Kenneth McKee of Blue Springs Road, just west of Vanceburg was allegedly robbed of approximately $3,000 to $4,000 cash Thursday around noon.
Stone said McKee, who is physically disabled, received an knock on the door of his home and shouted "Come in" to the visitor who had knocked. Upon entering, the alleged robber told McKee he was with the Social Security office and was there to see about getting McKee a $40 per month increase on his Social Security income but needed McKee's Social Security number.
According to Stone, McKee retrieved his wallet and gave the man the information he requested. After a few minutes of conversation, the man told McKee he needed some further information.
"When Mr. McKee pulled out his wallet the second time, the perpetrator grabbed his wallet and ran out the door." Stone said. "By the time Mr. McKee was able to get to the door, the man was gone. Because of that, Mr. McKee was unable to see if he was in a vehicle."
Stone indicated the LCSO canvassed the area and was in the process of interviewing residents to find out if they might have seen anything. According to Stone, "spun gravel" was discovered at the scene but it was unclear whether that came from the perpetrator or McKee who drove to the LCSO to report the incident.
"It is unclear whether this was a single robbery or tied into other robberies in the area." Stone said. "We will continue to investigate until we bring the perpetrators to justice."
The perpetrator is described as a white, heavy set male about 5 feet, 7 inches tall, in his early 50s with dark hair. He was wearing black pants with a dark polo shirt with light stripes.
The LCSO is advising citizens to be cautious about letting anyone they do not know into their homes. Anyone who may have noticed a strange car or person in the Blue Springs Road area at the time of the incident is urged to contact the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.
Residents are asked to notify law enforcement of any suspicious activities.
