Commission, school board races dominate Mason ballot Monday, September 29, 2008 11:02 AM EDT
Incumbents James E. "Rick" Litton, Johnny Mains, Kelly Ashley and Judy C. Pfeffer along with challengers Donnie Bussell and Chuck Jones are competing for four seats on Maysville city commission. In several races in the county's smaller cities, the number of available seats matches the number of registered candidates. Only an overwhelming turnout for any write-in candidates could change that, officials said. In Sardis, Jerry Cracraft, Raejean A.E. Cracraft, Steven Tuel and Shawn C. White are competing for four seats on council. Dover candidates also equal open seats with Donald G. Hurst, Denette Arthur, Nelson E. Davis and Judy Wood registered for the city's governing body In Germantown, the council openings outnumber candidates with Bradley Keith Persinger the sole registered candidate in a race with four openings. The race for Mason County Soil and Water Conservation District supervisors only contains P. Anthony Wenz Jr, with four possible seats available. Incumbent State Representative in the 70th Representative District race, Mitchel B. "Mike" Denham is running unopposed. Two of three Mason County School Board candidates, both incumbents are unopposed with the third incumbent does have opposition. In the 5th Education District race, incumbent Terry Ray Cunningham faces Kevin D. Carpenter; Ann Scott Porter is running solo for the 4th Educational District seat, as is Janet Risner West in the 1st Educational District. There is one office with no candidates at all, a prime opportunity for a write-in winner; Justice of the Peace in the 2nd Magisterial District needs candidates to fill an unexpired vacant term.
