AUGUSTA -- Raymond F. Mains, 79, of Augusta, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008.

He was born on Jan. 12, 1929, to the late Wilbur Raymond and Mary Lucy Wood Mains.

He was the owner of Mains Grocery in Augusta. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served as a deacon and on the church board. He was also a member of the N.R.A. and Ducks Unlimited.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Elizabeth Bush Mains.

He is survived by his three daughters, Diana (Joseph) Welte of Maysville, Joana Mains of Florence, and Susana (Donald) Mains of Augusta. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Joseph (Stephanie) Hargett, Amber (Jonathan) Kleefeld, Jordan Welte, Noah Welte, Lana Appelman and Levi Appelman; and great-grandchildren, Isabella Olguin-Hargett and Aidan Kleefeld. He is survived by his sister, Minerva Mains Williams of Phoenixville, Penn.; and sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Alma Bush, Norma Jane Tompkins and Ruth Figgins, all of Brooksville, and Dr. Leon (Mary Wood) Bush of Brookings, S.D. He is survived by 17 nieces and nephews and their families.

Services are 2 p.m., Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church.


Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Augusta. Joseph Adam Hargett, Noah Michael Mains Welte, Levi Thomas Appelman, Adam Young, Brent Tompkins, Robert Young and Vaughn Kelsch will serve as pallbearers and Joseph A. Welte, Donald T. Appelman, Amber Hargett Kleefeld, Jordan Leigh Welte and Lana K. Appelman will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation is noon-2 p.m., Friday at the church.

Moore and Parker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be sent to Ducks Unlimited or Alzheimer’s Association.
