Ron's picks

A college football game tonight at Toyota Stadium in Georgetown between Georgetown and Kentucky Christian has plenty of local flavor.

The game will feature former Mason County teammates and friends Jackson Tolle and Ray Huron. Tolle plays on special teams and defensive end for Georgetown. Huron, who plays center, anchors the offensive line for the Knights. In addition, local residents Lindsey Meek and Allison Hord are cheerleaders for Georgetown.

TRIVIA: Last week's trivia question was answered correctly by Jon Marc Adams, who named all 11 Division I teams with nicknames that do not end in ìs.î The teams are Alabama Crimson Tide, Illinois Fighting Illini, Marshall Thundering Herd, Navy Midshipmen, Nevada Wolf Pack, North Carolina State Wolfpack, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Stanford Cardinal, Syracuse Orange, Tulane Green Wave and Tulsa Golden Hurricane. The question for this week has local ties. What former Nicholas County Bluejacket played for Notre Dame in the 80s?

This week's picks:

Kentucky over South Carolina -- The Wildcats lead the nation in scoring defense and will beat Steve Spurrier for the first time.

Louisville over Memphis -- The Cards travel to Memphis and win this game on a late field goal.

Cincinnati over Rutgers -- The Bearcats use their defense and special teams to turn back the Scarlet Knights.

Georgia over Tennessee -- The Bulldogs will get back on track after the Alabama game, as they stifle the Vols in Athens.

Ohio State over Purdue -- The Buckeyes have everyone healthy and they have their swagger back.

West Virginia over Syracuse -- Quarterback Pat White is not 100 percent, but the Mountaineers should cruise against the Orange.

Georgetown over Kentucky Christian -- The Tigers have lost two in a row, but depth should give the Tigers the victory.

San Diego over Morehead State -- The Eagles defense is superb, but it will not stop the Aztecs on the road.

Oklahoma over Texas -- Quarterback Sam Bradford and his huge offensive line leads the Sooners to victory in the Cotton Bowl.

Missouri over Oklahoma State -- Chase Daniels airs it out as the Tigers will win this high-scoring game.

North Carolina over Notre Dame -- Coach Butch Davis has the Tar Heels playing well, and they will turn back the Irish.

Florida over LSU -- Big game in the swamps, talent galore on both teams, but Tim Tebow will find a way.

Ball State over Western Kentucky -- The Cardinals from Muncie crack the top 25 this week, and they win a close game in Bowling Green.

Miami (Fla.) over Central Florida -- The Hurricanes have lost two close games, but the talented freshmen will take over this tilt.

Illinois over Minnesota -- Junior quarterback Juice Williams will be too much for the Golden Gophers.

Auburn over Arkansas -- Auburn has ditched the spread offense, but the defense is still the same.

Penn State over Wisconsin -- This game is tough to call, but Penn State will find a way to win.

Texas Tech over Nebraska -- The combination of quarterback Graham Harrell to receiver Michael Crabtree will be too much for the Huskers.

Mississippi State over Vanderbilt -- Upset of the week. The Dogs will upend the Commodores in Starkville.

Brigham Young over New Mexico -- The Cougars continue their drive for a BCS berth, which is attainable.

LAST WEEK'S PICKS: Fifteen out of twenty picked correctly. Season totals are 96 correct out of 119 for 81 percent.
