High school soccer pairings announced for 23rd District tourney

St. Patrick is the host school for the 23rd District boys' soccer tournament that will be played Oct. 13-16 at the Tom Browning Boys and Girls Club. But being home team doesn't mean the Saints have an easy path to the championship game.

While Mason County, Grant County and Walton-Verona get first-round byes and automatic spots in the semifinals, St. Patrick first has to defeat Pendleton County in a play-in game on Monday, Oct. 13. The winner of the play-in game will face Walton-Verona on Oct. 15 in the semifinals. Mason County and Grant County will play in the semifinals Oct. 14. Admission costs $5 for adults and $3 for students.

In the 23rd District girls' tournament at Walton-Verona, Mason County and St. Patrick will meet in the play-in game on Oct. 13, with the winner advancing to meet Grant County in the semifinals. Pendleton County and Walton-Verona will meet in the semifinals.

Here's a look at the tournament schedule. Records as of Oct. 6:

BOYS AT TOM BROWNING BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB

Monday, Oct. 13 -- St. Patrick (7-3-1) vs. Pendleton County (7-3-2), 5 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 14 -- Semifinal: Grant County (9-5-1) vs. Mason County (7-8-1), 5 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 15 -- Semifinal: St. Patrick/Pendleton County vs. Walton-Verona (2-12-0), 5 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 16 -- Championship game, 5 p.m.

GIRLS AT WALTON-VERONA HIGH SCHOOL

Monday, Oct. 13 -- Mason County (7-2-5) vs. St. Patrick (8-3-2), 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday Oct. 14 --Semifinal: Pendleton County (6-5-4) vs. Walton-Verona (7-4-2), 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 15 -- Semifinal: Mason County/St. Patrick winner vs. Grant County (4-9-1)

Thursday, Oct. 16 -- Championship game.
