GARRISON – An accident involving a train and a vehicle has left one person with only minor injuries.
The accident happened around 7 p.m., Tuesday at the CSX railroad crossing on Everman Lane, just west of Garrison.
According to Deputy Matt Ross, a CSX train was backing up at the crossing as a 2008 Toyota Sienna operated by Marcia Grayson, 58, of Vanceburg, pulled onto the track.
Ross said the front driver’s side of the vehicle was struck by the train car and the front of the vehicle was pushed to the west of the tracks with the vehicle coming to a stop parallel to the tracks, west of the crossing.
According to Ross, a train worker was on the railcar that struck the vehicle and alerted the engineer to stop the train. The train then pulled back up away from the crossing.
Train workers also informed dispatchers of the accident.
Grayson was taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio, to be treated for relatively minor injuries.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
Ross was assisted at the scene by Deputy Eric Poynter, Lewis County Emergency Management, Portsmouth Ambulance, Garrison Fire and Rescue and Black Oak Fire and Rescue.
