VANCEBURG – A man accused of several charges related to sexual abuse will stand trial on Dec. 11.

Phillip Caseman, 55, was arrested in September of 2015 along with his wife, Maria A. Caseman and charged with sexual abuse and assault.

Phillip Caseman faces four counts of first-degree rape, eight counts of first-degree sexual abuse, one count of first-degree sodomy, one count of incest, one count of tampering with physical evidence and one count of third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor.

According to indictments naming the Casemans, they allegedly subjected an underage child to sexual contact while the child was under 18 years of age, beginning when the child was seven and continuing for several years.

Phillip Caseman was found competent to stand trial on Aug. 31.

Maria Caseman was sentenced to five years probation after pleading guilty to a lesser charge of tampering with evidence.

The two were arrested by Kentucky State Police Trooper Mile Fogleman in 2015 with the assistance of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Department of Social Services.

The trial is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 11.
