Letterman

David Letterman stopped in Fleming-Mason Airport Thursday for a quick visit. Letterman departed later that afternoon.

AUGUSTA -- An episode of David Letterman's My Next Guest Needs No Introduction on Netflix, featuring Augusta and the Clooney family, will air on Feb. 9.

Augusta Council Member Jackie Hopkins said the episode will feature Nick and Nina Clooney as well as an interview with Hazim Avdal, a refugee who had been living with the Clooney family before attending the University of Chicago.

She also said an interview with George Clooney was filmed in California for the episode.

Nick Clooney confirmed Letterman filmed an interview with his family, but was unsure how much of the interview would make it into the episode.

"I haven't seen it yet," he said. "I'll see it when it airs. (Letterman) interviewed us and (Avdal), but you never really know what will make it into an episode. They could film for two days and only put 18 seconds in."

Clooney said Letterman was friendly and funny during his time in Augusta.

"He was very funny and he was impressed with Augusta," Clooney said. "He loved the town and had a wonderful time. He even took a ride on the Augusta ferry. Overall, it was a wonderful experience for everyone involved."

According to Hopkins, she had to sign a waiver because part of the episode was filmed at the Augusta Pub which she manages.

"Of course I don't know how much, if any, of the pub they decided to use in the episode," she said. " I was honored to have (Letterman) and his crew here. He thought Augusta was a quaint town and could tell why the Clooney family loves it so much."

Hopkins said she will hold a viewing party for the episode at the Augusta Pub.

"Aaron's Rental Center from Maysville will be providing a big television for the event," she said. "Everything will start at 6 p.m. It's going to be a fun time.

Clooney said he will be in attendance for the viewing.
