VERSAILLES -- A Flemingsburg woman recently pleaded guilty to charges related to the 2016 death of a man in Versailles.
Ashley Ishmael, 24, pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, driving under the influence and being a persistent felony offender in a Woodford County Circuit Court.
Her sentencing has been set for Nov. 1 at 9:30 a.m., according to the Woodford County Circuit Clerk's Office.
According to Kentucky State Police Trooper Bernis Napier, in October 2016, Ishmael was operating a 2003 black Ford passenger car west on U.S. 421, also known as Leestown Road, in Versailles, when she crossed the center line and went into the eastbound lane, striking a 2004 Silver Hyundai passenger car operated by 24-year-old Darinel Ricon Hernandez.
According to reports, Ishmael hit Hernandez's vehicle head-on.
Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene by the Woodford County Coroner.
Ishmael was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries, according to Napier.
Napier said KSP was assisted at the scene by the Versailles Police Department, Woodford County Fire and EMS and Woodford County Coroner.
Ishmael is the daughter of Fleming County Board of Education Chairman Mike Ishmael.
