Those in need will be able to have Christmas dinner thanks to a local organization.
The Knights of Columbus Council in Maysville will be preparing and delivering dinners to those in need on Christmas morning.
“We’re getting 22 turkeys cooked,” said K of C member Grant Felice. “Saturday morning we will clean those turkeys and get them ready for Christmas. We’ll make the dressing, gravy, potatoes, green beans and ham on Christmas Day.”
According to Felice, the dinners are made possible through donations from the community and churches.
Organizing the event is all about the numbers, according to Felice.
“We have guys who have a lot of experience. They know how much to cook and how much to prepare. You have to have a good count and you go from there,” Felice said.
Dinners will be delivered Christmas morning starting at around 10 a.m. Felice said there are expected to be between 600-800 dinners distributed by K of C members and local volunteers.
Anyone can show up Christmas morning to volunteer to help deliver, Felice said.
“Volunteers show up to deliver dinners at around 10 a.m., on Christmas morning at the Knights of Columbus Hall,” Felice said. “They just get in line and fill up their trays. They’ll get an address to deliver their dinner to as they walk out the door.”
When asked about donating his time on Christmas Day, Felice said it is a great feeling.
“My family is very fortunate and they also help participate,” Felice said. “As my children have gotten older we’ve altered our Christmas plans to help others who are less fortunate. It makes us feel good to help others enjoy the holiday. It gives people hope when they’re down on their luck.”
