MAYSVILLE -- James Roy (JR) Dawson, 44, of Maysville, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at his home.
JR was born in Cincinnati, to the late James and Janeen Cowan Dawson.
JR is survived by his wife of nine years, Karen Tierney Dawson. He is also survived by his five children, Sydney Laine Dawson, Abigail Jaylyn Dawson, Logan James Dawson, Tyler Toombs and Emily Toombs, all of Maysville; two sisters, Jennifer (Joe) Bishop and Jayme Dawson; one brother, Jon (Heather) Dawson, all of Cincinnati; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Mary Sue Tierney; and sister-in-law, Jennifer (David) Maher.
JR was a graduate of Turpin High School. After graduation, he attended Eastern Kentucky University, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in fire science.
He was a member of the Maysville Fire Department until his retirement in October 2016, where he served as a paramedic and firefighter for 21 years.
Visitation for JR will be held Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Maysville.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
A celebration of life will be at the Knights of Columbus in downtown Maysville.
