MOUNT OLIVET -- Dories L. Gifford, age 85, Sardis, died Friday, March 2, 2018, at the Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville.
Born in Robertson County, June 26, 1932 to the late Carson and Jessie Orme French, she was a Nutritionist Assistant for Mason County Extension Office. Doris was a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Sardis United Methodist Women's Group and Mason County Farmerettes and Beachwood Homemakers. Maw was loved by many, most known for her generosity and selfless nature. “Sunday Dinners” were the highlight of her week.
The door was always open to anyone and the table was always full. She was a volunteer grannie at Straub Elementary School. Her dedication to her family was a blessing to each one of the them. She was loved and will be greatly missed.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Emmitt Gifford; a son, Barry Gifford; and a brother, Ottie French.
She is survived by two sons, Mike (Janice) Gifford and David (Darlene) Gifford; three daughters, Kathy Gifford, Patty (Johnny) Workman and Beverly (Craig) Stanfield; a brother, Sonny (Clara) French; a sister, Joyce (Stanley) Hanson; a sister-in-law, Jean French; eleven grandchildren, Staci (Travis) Howard, Missy (Tad) Campbell, Les Gifford, Keith (Jamie) Gifford, Chris (Sophia) Cropper, Kari ( Matt) Robinson, Jenny (Nick) Wright, Kasey (Nathan) Hutchinson, Lee Gifford (Layne Whitaker), Kristie Gifford (Brian Cluxton) and Katie (Mike) Zornes; seventeen great grandchildren, Colton Campbell, Kaylee Campbell, Beverly Sue Hutchinson, Haliegh Hutchinson, Makayla Howard, Jaclyn Cropper, Barry Gifford, Sindole Gifford, Madison Howard, Tanner Gifford, Grace Wright, Tyler Robinson, Ryder Gifford, Justin Wright, Ransom Wright, Tori Robinson and Kennedy Cropper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Robertson County Funeral Home by Bro. Tony Leiss and Dr. Mike Rice.
Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Les Gifford, Keith Gifford, Chris Copper, Lee Gifford, Kasey Hutchinson and Colton Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
