VANCEBURG -- Betty Boyd Secrest, age 87, of Vanceburg, passed away Sunday morning Jan. 7, 2018, at her home after an extended illness.
Betty was born in Tollesboro on Sept. 13, 1930, to the late Boyd Hiss and Beulah Emmons Harrison.
In her earlier years, Betty along with her late husband Wayne Zeke owned and operated the Jewelry Box in Vanceburg. Later Betty worked for the Lewis County Board of Education for 29 years from which she retired.
Betty was a graduate of Tollesboro High School Class of 1948. She was an avid gardener and hosted thousands of pool parties for her grandchildren.
Betty traveled the World covering almost all the continents and United States with her family members.
Surviving Betty are two children, a daughter, Jill Secrest O'Cull of Vanceburg; one son, Dane Wilson Secrest of Vanceburg; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sue Jane and her husband, Al Bane of Tollesboro; Patsy and her husband, Steve Wright of Paris.
Preceding Betty in death, besides her parents, was her husband, Wayne Zeke Secrest in 2001; and a grandson, Jazz Austin Secrest in 2017.
Visitation will be Thursday Jan. 11, 2018, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Gaydos Funeral Home 159 2nd street Vanceburg, Ky.
Services will be held privately at a later date at the convenience of the family.
