On Oct. 22, 2011, some 57 walkers representing 13 churches joined together to bring about the first C.R.O.P. Hunger Walk to Mason County/Maysville. C.R.O.P. (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty). Hunger Walks across the county are raising the awareness of world hunger both locally and around the world. Church World Service is a cooperative ministry of 35 Protestant, Orthodox, and Anglican denominations, providing sustainable self-help and development, disaster relief, and refugee assistance around the world, including the United States.
Many thanks go out to the Limestone Ministerial Association for sponsoring the walk. Church World Service for providing resources, for the city of Maysville for arranging the walk logistics, for the First Christian Church for hosting the first walk but more importantly for all the walkers and supporters. These folks raised over $4,000. Mason County Food Bank will receive the local portion of 25 percent. The additional funds will be used for international relief and to fight against World Hunger.
