Ripley didn’t waste any time in their second contest of the postseason.

The Blue Jays jumped on Hillcrest early, forcing several first half turnovers on their way to an 87-23 win in the sectional tournament at Taylor High School on Wednesday.

Ripley forced six turnovers in the first two minutes as they jumped out to a 7-2 lead, before eventually closing the quarter ahead, 21-7, after a putback from Josiah Staggs.

The defense from the Blue Jays continued in the second quarter, holding the Rams to five points and bringing Hillcrest to 15 turnovers in the first 16 minutes for a 41-12 advantage.

Ripley started the second half hot, getting the clock running with 6:30 left in the third quarter on a 3-pointer from Brian Dunn, who finished with 13 points for the Blue Jays. Ripley finished the frame by outscoring the Rams, 25-4, for a 60-point advantage thanks to 6-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc.

Ripley cruised to victory from there, posting 21 points for an 87-23 victory. The 87 points are the most for the Blue Jays since they beat Whiteoak, 87-80, on Jan. 17, 2012. Ripley’s defense forced 20 turnovers in Wednesday’s contest.

Ryan Harney led Ripley with 15 points, while Dunn had 13, Staggs had 12, Nigel Royal had 11 and Landon Dearing and Corey Germann each had eight. The Blue Jays improve to 15-8 and will return to Taylor on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. game against James Gamble Montessori.

Hillcrest was led by Kayan Harvin's eight points. Ronald Pittman had five and Malachi Glover had four.


The Peebles boys’ basketball team used a 15-3 run at the end of the second quarter to pull away for a 68-50 victory over Whiteoak during an OHSAA Division IV Southeast sectional final, Wednesday, at Northwest High School.

A bucket from Weston Browning gave Peebles a 14-11 lead over the Wildcats at the end of the second quarter, before Peebles was able to pull ahead by 13 at the break. Bostin Robinson led the way for Peebles in the second quarter with 10 points on his way to a game-high 22.

Peebles was able to extend the lead to 16 at 50-34 by the end of the third quarter, before outscoring the Wildcats in the fourth quarter, 18-16, to cap off the 68-50 win and earn a trip to Ohio University’s Convocation Center.

Behind Robinson were Tanner Arey and Weston Browning with 15 points each, while Blake Hawes had eight and Colten Ball had six. Peebles improves to 18-5 with the win and will take on Waterford on Sunday at 7:15 p.m. in Athens.

Traeten Hamilton led the Wildcats with 14 points, while Zach Rand had 12 and Trever Yeager had seven. Whiteoak finishes the season at 13-11.
