It was a pair of Maysville boys beating buzzers in separate cites, one earlier in the day on Friday in Ashland, the other later in the day in Louisville.
It was Leevi Dunaway hitting a 3-pointer to give Mason County their lone win in the Ashland Invitational Tournament, 66-64 over Breathitt County.
Brevin Jones hitting a baseline jumper to give St. Patrick a 77-75 win over Brown in the Louisville Collegiate Classic.
MASON COUNTY 66, BREATHITT COUNTY 64
Mason County completed a comeback victory on Leevi Dunaway’s buzzer-beater to finish in seventh place in the 63rd annual Ashland Invitational Tournament.
Trailing by one point in the closing moments, the senior nailed a 3-pointer, giving the Royals their first victory of the tournament. They won, 66-64.
Jayden Steward and Caleb Boyd each netted 16 points to grab team-high honors for Mason County (8-5). Dunaway collected 12 and Jaylen Lofton added 11.
Breathitt County (4-10) held a 35-28 advantage at intermission, but the Royals tallied a 38-point second half, culminating with Dunaway’s jumper.
The Bobcats were playing without leading scorer Kyle Fraley because of an injury he suffered in the previous round. Jack Fugate stepped into the starting role and finishing with a game-high 27 points and hit five from long distance. Cameron Stacy chipped in nine.
ST. PATRICK 77, BROWN 75
Brevin Jones sunk a baseline jumper as the buzzer sounded to give the Saints a victory at the Louisville Collegiate Classic.
Jones recorded his fourth double-double in six games as he collected 15 points and 15 rebounds in the victory.
The Saints were trailing throughout with deficits of 24-17 after the first, 43-39 at half and 59-54 after three.
Also having big games for St. Patrick was Jake Swolsky and Baylen Bauer with 24 points apiece, Swolsky adding 10 rebounds. Chandler Black chipped in 12 points as the Saints improved to 5-8 on the season.
They'll face Eminence on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. in the fifth-place game.
BRACKEN COUNTY 75, LEWIS COUNTY 51
The Polar Bears salvaged seventh-place in their own JBR/Straight Edge Construction Holiday Tournament.
Bracken rode the hot hand of Jhace Cummins as he had 23 points, going a perfect 3-of-3 from the 3-point line and 8-of-8 at the free throw line.
Tanner Fisher had 14 points, Mason Tucker 13 points and Tad Fisher with a double-double, posting 11 points and 11 rebounds to snap a nine-game losing streak.
Lewis County dropped their fourth straight with the loss.
MASON COUNTY LADY ROYALS 62, FREDERICK DOUGLASS 41
The Lady Royals forced 34 turnovers in their 21-point victory.
Victoria Brooks led the way with 18 points while AJ Reed had 12 and Kara Moran 9.
Mason County will face Bath County, Saturday, at 2:30 p.m., in the fifth place game of the Gateway Holiday Classic at Montgomery County.
