Holiday times are here to go with the healthy serving of hoops being offered around the coverage area.
In the third week of the season, Mason County's Leevi Dunaway and Peebles' Jacey Justice were the ones who stood out the most.
Dunaway put up the fourth most points in a game in school history last Thursday against East Carter, when he went for 49 in an overtime victory at East Carter. The Royals went 3-0 last week and Dunaway was a big part of that, averaging 30.3 points per game in the victories. The senior guard scored 17 in a win over Bracken County at The Igloo last Tuesday and followed up his career-high performance on Thursday to score 25 as the Royals went to Louisville and knocked off Male. Most impressively was Dunaway's efficiency in putting up the monster week, shooting 56 percent from the field, 60 percent from the 3-point line and 85 percent from the free throw line. He also chipped in 4.6 rebounds and three steals per game too.
Justice, a freshman, averaged 18.5 points per game last week in losses to Fairfield and Lynchburg-Clay. The freshman shot 48 percent from the field and over 80 percent from the free throw line in the two contests, also averaging three rebounds and 1.5 steals per contest.
As for team of the week, the Eastern Brown Lady Warriors earned the distinction by posting a 3-0 week and moving to 6-1 on the year. The Lady Warriors knocked off preseason Southern Hills Athletic Conference favorite North Adams on Monday, Fayetteville-Perry on Wednesday and Manchester on Thursday to improve them to 6-1 and cementing themselves atop the SHAC standings with a 6-0 record in the conference.
