The Mason County boys' golf team is in similar shape to the rest of the 8th Region...looking to replace their No. 1 golfer and build their youth up.
Replacing B.J. Knox won't be easy, who's off to go play collegiately at Campbellsville, but a healthy competition from the top seven golfers on the team should help drive competition.
Bryan Walton will enter as the No. 1 and depending on the severity of Josh Coleman's wrist injury, golfers two through seven could be a mix of anybody. Spencer Magee, Evan Schumacher and Mason Butler will start the season in the top five. Logan Shepherd, Kaden Grooms and Zach Ring will also be in the mix vying for the top five spots.
"It's really close," Royals coach Chad Mefford said of the top five spots. "It's good competition and good for us because the worst thing would be for everybody to be comfortable."
The team will get their feet wet early with five tournaments in a six-day stretch to open up the season.
