Ah, it's the most wonderful time of the year.
Christmas, New Year's, a break from school or work, family, food and of course...holiday basketball tournaments.
Curious where local teams are going to be the next couple of weeks? Well here's a brief glance at that.
The holiday hoops action begins Monday at The Shamrock in the "Hoops for Hope" game between Augusta and St. Patrick. The boy-girl doubleheader will begin at 6 p.m.
The Saints also play in the Rose Hill All Private School Invitational starting on Thursday. After Christmas, the Saints will be in the Louisville Collegiate Classic running December 28-30. The Lady Saints will face St. Joseph Central out of Ironton, Ohio on Thursday and follow that with a home game on Friday. After Christmas, they'll play at the Ripley Holiday Classic against the Lady Jays on December 29.
The Panthers will face Rockcastle County in the Kentucky Bank Challenge at Rowan County on Friday and will also be playing in the Ripley Holiday Classic on December 29-30 starting with Felicity-Franklin, Ohio. The Lady Panthers will head to the Villa Madonna Holiday Invitational Tournament from December 27-29, starting off with Whitefield Academy on the 27th.
After a doubleheader at The Fieldhouse on Tuesday with the Mason County boys' facing Dixie Heights and girls' hosting Newport, the two will host doubleheaders again on Thursday (boys vs. Highlands, girls vs Lewis County) and Friday (boys vs Pendleton, girls vs Nicholas County) for the US Bank Mike Murphy Classic.
Post Christmas the Royals will be competing in the Ashland Invitational Tournament December 27-29, kicking the tourney off on December 27 against Boyd County. The Lady Royals will be playing in the Gateway Holiday Classic at Montgomery County from December 28-30, starting off the tournament with Paul Laurence Dunbar.
Bracken County doesn't have any pre-Christmas tournament action, but do have games against Lewis County, Paris and Ripley on Monday, Tuesday and Friday of this week. After Christmas the Polar Bears will bring back their own Christmas tournament, the JBR/Strightedge Construction Holiday Tournament. They kick that off on the 27th against Calvary Christian.
The Lady Bears take on Bath County Tuesday and will head to Frankfort on the 27th for the Christmas at the Capital Classic, kicking off play against Brown.
Fleming County hosts South Laurel on Tuesday and Williamstown on Friday before heading to Corbin December 27-30 for the Cumberland Falls Holiday Invitational Tournament where they open up play with the host on the 27th.
The Lady Panthers will head to Tennessee on Wednesday for the Beech Christmas Tournament, starting off play against Rossview out of Clarksville, TN. That tournament runs until Friday and they'll be off until the 30th when they host Boyd County.
Lewis County hosts Bracken County Monday before heading to the Swauger Holiday Classic at Bellevue on Thursday. They'll start play in the three-day tournament against Ludlow. After Christmas, the Lions will participate in Bracken County's Holiday Tournament, opening up with Bourbon County on the 27th.
The Lady Lions get Mason County in the Mike Murphy Classic Thursday and will host South Point, Ohio on Friday. After Christmas, Lewis will play in the Berea Holiday Classic from December 28-30, starting off with Williamsburg.
Robertson County plays in the Kentucky Bank Challenge at Rowan County on Friday and Saturday. After Christmas, they'll play in Bath County's CSI Classic, starting off play against Estill County on December 28.
The Lady Devils will also be in the Villa Madonna Holiday Invitational Tournament from the 27th-29th, starting play with Eminence.
All of the Ohio schools in the coverage area don't have any pre-Christmas Tournaments or Invitationals, those all take place the following week. An article will be in the December 27th edition of The Ledger Independent for more information on those. Those tournaments include the Ripley Holiday Classic, the McDonald's Classic and the Brown County Holiday Tournament.
