The basketball season is in full swing, and so is The Ledger Independent Players of the Week and Performance of the Week.

There were many performances that stood out from area athletes in the first full week of the season, but Manchester’s Brooke Kennedy, Georgetown’s Noah Pack and the West Unions Dragons stood out the most.

Kennedy, a 6-foot freshman, had a successful high school debut, posting 15 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, five blocks and two steals in a 51-22 win over Adena last Monday. She added 15 points, 11 rebounds and four assists on Thursday in a 62-38 loss to Lynchburg-Clay. The Lady Hounds bounced back with a big 70-42 win over Augusta to close out the first week by already reaching the previous season’s win total. Kennedy had 12 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, four steals and three blocks in the game.

Pack opened up the season with a strong performance to prove he’s one of the best in southern Ohio. The junior had 27 points and 18 rebounds to get the G-Men off to a 1-0 start with a 63-52 win over Ripley. Pack was 9-of-11 from the field and 9-of-11 from the free throw line.

The Dragon Dynasty under Greg Himes started strong. West Union posted the first 2-0 start since 2007 with a 56-44 win over Southeastern on Saturday. The Dragons opened the season with a 71-42 shellacking of Southern Hills Athletic Conference foe Fayetteville Perry the day before.
