If you get a chance, take a drive and check out the revised Wald Park as it is going to be spectacular.
But today I would like to look in the rear-view mirror and revisit how Wald Park came to be. The present location of Wald Park was the home for a baseball diamond that was called Limestone Park.
Two men had a vision just like the current Wald Park committee does today. Glen Hardymon in conjunction with Rueben Pawsat who headed the Wald Manufacturing Company began the task of making Wald Park in 1948. These two men had connections and they used them wisely.
In fact, Mr. Pawsat utilized two of his top-notch employees, Herb Schlifke and Glen Erickson to help renovate Limestone Park and rename it Wald Park. It was a beauty in 1948 as the it was the crown jewel of the Bluegrass League with its bright green outfield fence.
The newly on the air, WFTM broadcasted games and the iconic Earle D. Jones did the play-by-play. Well the sparkling new Wald Park is going to be something to behold but looking back, I am sure glad we had men like Glen Hardymon and Rueben Pawsat who had the dream and the means to turn Limestone Park into Wald Park.
