MOREHEAD -- It's back to work for the Morehead State men's basketball team. Following a convincing 47-point win over Alice Lloyd Thursday, the Eagles will face a stiff test at in-state rival Northern Kentucky Saturday night. Tip-off at the BB&T Arena is 7 p.m. ET.
The game will air live on ESPN3 and will also be available on Cincinnati's CW channel in surrounding areas. Chuck Mraz will have the radio call on WIVY-96.3 FM and MSUEagles.com.
The Norse bombed Berea (Ky.) 112-33 on Wednesday and are 5-2 in 2017-18. The Eagles sit at 2-5.
THE NORTHERN KENTUCKY SERIES
Morehead State owns a 7-2 lead in the all-time series with Northern Kentucky, which began in 1974-75. In recent years, the teams have played every season since 2013-14 with the series even at two games apiece in the last four seasons.
AGAINST THE HORIZON
Morehead State is 29-17 all-time against current members of the Horizon League, having played all 10 members at some point in the Eagles' history. MSU is 0-1 this year with a setback at IUPUI.
In the last two games, Morehead State is 69-of-126 from the field for 55 percent. Included in that is a 19-of-42 showing from three point range for 46 percent. Prior to that, MSU was just 26-of-93 (.279) from behind the arc.
A DJIMON IN THE ROUGH
Sophomore guard Djimon Henson has reached double figures in the scoring column in six straight games now, including a career-best 23-point night against Alice Lloyd. In the last six games, Henson has averaged 12.3 ppg.
The Morehead State men have either led the Ohio Valley Conference or ranked second in rebounding margin now in 11 consecutive seasons, and that trend is holding true again this season after the Eagles out-boarded Alice Lloyd 62-18.
Jordan Walker is leading Morehead State with 12.3 points per game so far. He has 14 career double-figure scoring games now, including four this season.
KING OF THE GLASS
Junior forward Londell King now has two career double-doubles after a 10-point, 12-rebound performance at Central Arkansas. He also scored 10 and secured 10 boards versus Marshall. Despite playing only 13.4 minutes per contest, King leads the Eagles with 7.6 rebounds per game.
GET THAT OUTTA HERE
Morehead State is averaging 4.1 blocked shots per outing, and that ranks second among all OVC schools so far in 2017-18. The Eagles have notched six or more blocks three times.
Junior guard A.J. Hicks handed out a career-best seven assists in the Eagles' 86-83 win over Marshall on Nov. 16. Hicks leads Morehead State with 23 assists in 2017-18.
WHAT A WEEK MALEK
Freshman forward Malek Green is playing well beyond his years, averaging 9.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 59 percent fom the field. Green erupted for a career-best 16 points off the bench against Central Arkansas and now has three double-figure scoring efforts.
HARRIS HEATS BACK UP
Preseason All-OVC (College Sports Madness) pick Lamontray Harris has had a bit of roller coaster season so far, but he came off the bench for his third career double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) versus Alice Lloyd.
